NSA Applied Against Man Accused of Killing Women, Sexual Acts with Corpses
Barabanki, UP: The district administration has invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against a man accused of murdering two women and engaging in sexual acts with their corpses, officials confirmed on Monday.
The accused, 26-year-old Amrendra Rawat, was arrested last year in connection with the brutal murders in the Ramsanehi Ghat area, according to Additional Superintendent of Police (South), Akhilesh Narayan Singh. On Saturday, authorities decided to apply the NSA against Rawat, who had also been charged under the Gangsters Act in May of the previous year.
Singh explained that the severity of the crimes, which include necrophilia, prompted the invocation of the NSA to ensure the accused remains in custody without the possibility of bail. “Rawat has confessed to murdering the women and subsequently performing sexual acts with their bodies,” Singh added.
The case first came to light when the body of a 60-year-old woman, showing signs of strangulation and disarray, was found in a forested area under the jurisdiction of Ramsanehi Ghat police on December 29, 2022. Investigations revealed that the woman had been raped post-mortem. Further inquiries uncovered a similar incident reported earlier in December 2022.
Rawat was eventually apprehended in January last year while attempting to murder another elderly woman in the neighboring Ayodhya district. The police believe his arrest prevented another potential tragedy.
